At Metropolitan Montessori School, deep and lasting relationships develop among our families as they share in the growth of their children over nine years. The school draws families who share a commitment to education as a joyful and lifelong pursuit. Our families create a culture that is nurturing, thoughtful, respectful and creative. They organize informal after-school gatherings at the 83rd Street playground in Riverside Park and family activities at Chelsea Piers or other recreational venues. They plan cocktail parties, dinners and other social events for parents. They organize book groups, dads nights, moms nights, cultural outings, and they participate in citywide service projects that enlist the support of the community. Through the Parents Association, the school offers numerous opportunities for parents to volunteer their time and talents to create meaningful experiences for the school’s families. The Board of Trustees, which is comprised of current and former parents and outside appointees, seeks expertise in finance, management, marketing, operations, fundraising and other specialties in order to provide sound governance for the school. Whether it is volunteering at the Book Fair, attending a class cocktail party, speaking to a class about a professional or personal experience, taking part in a parent education discussion, or sharing in a school art fair, holiday concert, or end-of-year celebration, there are an array of ways for parents to take part in the MMS experience and benefit from the strength of this community.

“One of the first things that struck us about MMS was how genuine and unpretentious the parents were. Over the years we have developed lasting friendships that go far beyond the fact that our kids are friends. So not only have our kids developed friends for life, so have we.”
