Need a Break? Check Out These Student-Led Meditations
MMS begins Wednesday mornings with a little bit of zen, thanks to the fifth graders. Each week, a different member of the class leads a meditation exercise—”Wednesday Wellness”—that is broadcast around the school. The Wednesday meditations help center them before beginning their morning work. “Being the only girl with two brothers, things at home can get very crazy,” said Veronika H. “The meditation helps with calming my body after a stressful morning at home and helps me prepare for a day at school.” And Audrey K. adds, “It helps me connect with myself. It always gives me a boost and it’s just what I need to start my day. ” The first meditation took place on February 10, and the students have been collecting the recordings on a website (with an assist from Ms. Chelsie), so they’re accessible to everyone. Each fifth grader will lead a piece if they volunteer, and the weekly practice will continue until the end of the year. Whenever you need a breather, take a listen!
