Dishing from the Primary Kitchen: December Edition
As the year progresses, food prep work becomes more challenging for our primary students. Each activity may contain multiple steps and combine more skills that strengthen and refine their fine motor abilities. Here are the two activities our students have been dishing out:
Pears/Apples with Yogurt Sprinkled with Cinnamon
Sounds fancy doesn’t it? Because it is! Children get some fruit, scoop out some yogurt and grate some cinnamon to top their yummy snack. Here’s our favorite ceramic grater that we are using again. Your children can help in your kitchen by grating cinnamon sticks or a knob of ginger for any of your recipes with this handy kitchen tool.
This work may not be edible, but it is a fun activity that ushers in the holiday spirit with how festive it looks and smells. Students freestyle decorate, or their teachers create a special pattern to follow. They really use their pincer grip and fine motor strength to push in each clove!
