Dishing from the Primary Kitchen: February Edition
This month’s food prep works involve a lot of patience, peeling and popping! Children have been enjoying hard boiled eggs and edamame in their classrooms.
With the egg peeling work, the children learn to carefully crack the egg so they can peel off the shell before they feast on this nutritious snack! Additionally, you can also have a child use an egg slicer as an extra step. The edamame pods have proved to be both fun and a bit challenging. Children need to gently pop the beans out of the pod so it doesn’t go flying off!
Both activities help children develop and strengthen their fine motor abilities, particularly practicing a “light touch” to be able to peel the egg or pop the beans out of the pod. Practicing their “light touch” helps prepare children for handwriting.
